At first, Tokyo is a menace. Using the improper unlocks with your limited quantity of Skill Points could make battles last longer and make exploration harder.

This guide is all about the finest early choices for Abilities and Ethereal Weaving, as well as the few Equipment upgrades that are worth your time. You should be able to move more easily, kill enemies faster, and stay alive longer without having to heal as much.

How The Skill Trees Work Early

There are three types of upgrades in Ghostwire: Tokyo: Abilities, Ethereal Weaving, and Equipment. It's usually not a good idea to buy equipment early on. 

Mobility and core-extraction tools are the most useful things in Abilities. Damage and feel improvements are the most helpful aspects in Ethereal Weaving. Don't upgrade anything that doesn't fit with how you fight to save points.

Equipment: What To Skip And What To Take

Early on, avoid investing heavily in equipment. Prayer Beads upgrades are the most important item here because they can make some powers stronger. You can wait for everything else. Early Equipment points don't do much if Talismans aren't part of the plan and the Bow isn't used very often.

Abilities: Movement Skills You Need Fast

Glide is a top early unlock because it changes how the city feels. It helps during missions, shrine routes, and general traversal. 

It also makes it much easier to clean Shrines and add them to the map, since there are no longer gaps or rooftops in the way. You don't have to max out Glide right immediately, but getting it early is really important.

Grapple is another must-have because the game pushes you toward it. It enables vertical movement and makes travel much more flexible. 

After that, Faster Sneaking is a terrific way to improve your life. Stealth can seem to be everywhere, and when you crouch down, you move slowly. A faster stealth makes it easier to slip around and get closer to enemies without getting caught.

Abilities: Core Extraction Skills That Delete Enemies

Once you know how to move, work on the combat skills that matter most to you. Ground Core Grab is a wonderful move since it lets you finish off enemies swiftly once you knock them down. It's a good way to end fights before they get too long, and it works well with improvements that make you harder to kill later.

Ground Attack Boost supports that same plan. It makes ground-based adversaries deal more damage. The additional damage from being grounded allows you to swiftly clean up after enemies that are too far away to finish instantaneously with Wind, Water, or Fire weapons.

Melee Core Grab is another key choice. You can grab exposed cores faster at close range than with the long extraction option. This makes the fight go faster and enables you to get rid of threats before other enemies can stop you.

Abilities: The "Chain" That Makes You Safer

Core extraction is strong, but it can be stopped. Core Grab Speed Boost speeds up extraction, which is vital when attackers try to hit you while you're grabbing. If you grasp things faster, you won't have to stop and start over as often.

Core Exposure Duration Boost is the other half of that combo. It keeps cores exposed longer. This is useful when multiple enemies are around, because longer exposure gives more time to set up extra core states and potentially chain removals, rather than scrambling.

Finally, Core Grab HP Restoration is one of the best early survival tools. When you remove cores, you heal, and further upgrades can make the healing even better. This makes it less necessary to use healing items and favors aggressive, crisp finishes.

Ethereal Weaving: Upgrade What You Actually Use

Ethereal Weaving should fit with how you want to play. If you generally fight with the elements, most of your points should go here after the core and mobility foundations. You can focus on one element, but if you use all three elements all the time, it's also beneficial to spread upgrades among Wind, Water, and Fire.

Consider enhancements that are designed to enhance charging capabilities. If you want your strongest attacks to feel better and deal more damage, the Charge Attacks approach is a great choice.

Aside from that, most improvements in the Wind, Water, and Fire categories affect your shooting speed, ammunition capacity, and the range and strength of your assaults. Start by constructing the element lines that are most comfortable to work with, and then go back and finish the others.
