Catch Houndour early in a starter cave, then evolve it into Houndoom at level 24.

If you want a solid Fire- and Dark-type early, Houndour is an easy pickup once you know the right cave. The best part is how fast you can get it. This spawn is close to the early story path, so you can add Houndour to your team without long travel. After that, the evolution is simple. You only need to level it up to reach Houndoom.

Where To Find Houndour Early

A very early Houndour location is inside the cave you fall into during the section where you find your mount Pokémon. This is the same cave tied to that early story moment, so it is easy to recognize.

If you are already riding your mount, you can ride back toward that area and look for the cave entrance. Once you head inside, you can find Houndour spawning there.

Other Houndour Locations For Higher Levels

Houndour can also be found in a couple of other places. If you want a stronger one, there is an area where higher-level spawns can appear, including around level 20. One important detail is timing. Those stronger Houndour spawns are only available at night, so this route works best if you visit after dark.

How To Evolve Houndour Into Houndoom

To evolve Houndour, level it up to level 24. Once it reaches level 24, it evolves into Houndoom. This evolution does not require an item, a trade, or a special condition.
