Tales of Arise Guide | How to Beat Lord Ganabelt Valkyris

Here's a guide on how to beat Lord Ganabelt Valkyris in Tales of Arise

Game Guide by Mash Rahman on  Jun 02, 2026

Lord Ganabelt Valkyris is the culmination of your campaign to free the frozen world of Cyslodia. In the grand throne room of the Riville Doll Citadel, this high lord is wielding a huge, ornate sword, channeling huge light-elemental astral energy. Ganabelt doesn't rely on brute force like Balseph, but instead decimates your team with sheer speed, protective light barriers and magical incantations that clear the screen.

This boss battle in particular is one of the most notorious difficulty spikes in the entire game. The encounter was made by the developers to make sure you have the mechanics for perfect evasion and magical disruption down cold.

Ganabelt will easily punish greedy players who blindly rush in, teleporting behind your front line to slice through your healers in the blink of an eye. This guide will walk you through the precise tactics, loadouts, and tactical adjustments you’ll need to break through his light defenses and tear Cyslodia away from his fingers.

Basic Preparations and Gear Optimization

Going into the throne room of the citadel blind and not optimizing your gear is a recipe for a quick and frustrating loss. Before you go into this epic battle, you need to visit a merchant or blacksmith and get your gear up to par. It’s absolutely critical to get Alphen to use his highest forged blade available to break Ganabelt’s heavy physical armor.

Your active four-person fighting force for this long endurance match will be Alphen, Shionne, Rinwell and Law. Ganabelt is completely reliant on light-elemental magic, so the most important factor for his survival is the accessory he picks for his defense. You need to create and equip Alexandrite accessories for your characters, as this item specifically halves incoming light damage.

Without these protective accessories, Ganabelt’s ultimate attacks will easily take out your entire party in one, unblockable hit. You have to refill your inventory with important medical supplies before the fight. Buy a healthy maximum supply of Apple Gels and Orange Gels to constantly replenish your health and shared Cure Points pool over the lengthy skirmish, as well as plenty of Life Bottles to undo sudden knockouts.

Configure the Party AI for a Defensive Victory

Ganabelt can fill the entire arena with beams of light that kill, so if you want to maintain control of the battlefield, it’s important to configure the behavior of your AI companions. For this boss fight, you want to have direct control of Alphen and use his heavy close-range sword strikes to deal high burst damage. Pause the game and go to the Strategy menu to change your team's tactical logic before you engage the boss.

And Shionne needs strict orders to serve as your dedicated, primary lifesaver. Set her parameters to fully prioritize healing and resurrection, so she automatically casts First Aid the exact millisecond a character's health drops below a safe threshold. Rinwell would be told to remain as far back as she could on the outer perimeter, constantly throwing out her long-range dark and wind spells to play on elemental weaknesses.

The law should be designed to operate as a physically aggressive, shield-breaking attacker who excels at keeping the pressure on with Alphen. You have your helpful backline safely spread out, so you don’t risk your whole team getting caught in one sweeping light blast and you can comfortably fight in close quarters.

Phase One and the Light Shield.

Once the battle starts in earnest, Ganabelt will encase himself in a thick, glowing shield of light energy. While this defensive shield is active, he gains massive hyper-armor and takes much less damage from all physical and magical attacks. His main personal arsenal is a series of lightning-fast sword thrusts, sudden forward teleports, and multi-hit light beams that fire after your current movement.

Don't just charge forward blindly and mash your normal attack buttons against his barrier to survive the first few minutes. Instead, assume a very patient defensive stance, and observe his physical telegraphs carefully. When Ganabelt raises his sword or flashes white, he’s about to do a high-speed lunging slash or electric shockwave.

You have to time your dodge roll perfectly to get a Perfect Evade, which will slow down time around you for a moment. Next, be sure to follow up immediately with a Counter Edge strike to deal critical damage directly to his shield. By repeating this disciplined cycle, you ensure you're slowly chipping away at his defensive wall while keeping Alphen completely safe from damage.

Unleashing Strategic Boost Attacks

As you continue exchanging blows with the high lord, your party members' Boost Gauges will quickly fill with a bright blue glow. The absolute key to breaking Ganabelt’s heavy defenses and canceling his deadliest moves is managing these companion assists correctly. Law’s special Boost Attack is the most useful thing you have during the shielded parts of the fight as his armored-fist attacks are designed to break through heavy physical guards and barriers.

Whenever the boss activates his light shield, call Law in for a devastating strike that will deal massive damage directly to the shield's integrity. Rinwell’s Boost Attack also plays a very important role in the first half of the fight. Ganabelt will often retreat to the center of the arena and begin aggressively charging up strong light spells, signified by purple casting circles glowing beneath his feet.

As soon as you see this magical charging animation start, use Rinwell’s boost assist to instantly steal the boss’s astral energy. If you can successfully disrupt him in his chant, the incoming elemental hazard will be completely nullified, and a severe Core Break state will be triggered, causing the tyrant to slump helplessly onto the floor for a generous window of time.

The Clone Phase and Indignation Surviving

You’ll get treated to a short cinematic, and the encounter will reach its absolute peak when you manage to get Ganabelt’s health pool below the halfway mark. The boss will violently back away to the middle of the arena and make three identical copies of himself in light, while also beginning to cast his signature apocalyptic Mystic Arte, Indignation. This is the most dangerous part of the entire encounter; if not handled properly, it will mean an immediate wipe of the party.

As this long casting sequence progresses, a large circular gauge will appear over the battlefield, counting down the time remaining until Indignation explodes. The real Ganabelt and his 3 clones will constantly be casting spells that overlap each other, showering lightning and holy pillars all over the arena. You must completely forget the real boss during this sequence and focus only on destroying the three clones as fast as you can.

The clones have much less individual HP and can be cut down quickly with Alphen's wide sweeping sword artes and your stored Boost Attacks. The more clones you manage to destroy, the less damage the final devastating Indignation spell will do. If you can clear all three clones before the timer runs out, the final blast will be much less powerful, allowing your party to survive the explosion comfortably, provided your health pools are topped off.

Weathering the Phase Two Over Limit Storm

If you make it through the devastating blast of Indignation, the battle enters its chaotic second half. Ganabelt will let out a savage growl and wrap himself in a permanent, blazing blue aura, indicating that he is officially in his Over Limit state. In this last stage of the fight, he moves twice as fast and has no casting times whatsoever, and his physical attacks cannot be interrupted by any normal means.

He'll begin teleporting frantically around the arena, lunging at high speed and casting multiple holy spells all at once. The second you see this hyper-active state setting in you’ve got to switch to an all-out defensive playstyle immediately and completely and forget about all offensive thoughts. Just focus on running in big unbroken circles around the outside of the throne room, dodging the erupting pillars of light with well-timed roll rolls.

Keep a very close eye on your shared pool of Cure Points, and if Shionne runs out of magical energy, manually pause the game and feed her an Orange Gel from your inventory while maintaining the team’s stability. Don't bother trying to hit him when he's teleporting all over the place. His hyper-armor will let him trade hits instantly and knock Alphen out. Just think about pure survival and wait for small breaks in his movement.

Performing the Final Blow

When the punishing Over Limit attack finally subsides, and Ganabelt stops for a moment to catch his breath, he will be utterly fatigued and quite vulnerable to your final attack. This is your best opportunity to take advantage of his fatigue and get the long-awaited win. Time Alphen’s fiery sword hits with any remaining companion Boost Gauges to trap the tyrant in a continuous, unbreakable stagger loop.

The blue crosshair diamond hovering directly above the boss will quickly fill to capacity as your entire party continues to pour damage into his vulnerable body. As soon as you see the Strike indicator flashing furiously on screen, press the corresponding D-pad prompt to perform a cinematic team-up finishing move. This spectacular finishing blow will break Lord Ganabelt's sword for good, officially ending the battle and freeing the realm of Cyslodia.

Taking down this master of light is a huge milestone that validates your ability to juggle clone management, magical disruption, and tight defensive discipline. Now that the high lord of the dark icy skies of Cyslodia is defeated, the skies will finally part, revealing warm sunlight for the first time in centuries. Your battle-hardened rebellion can safely collect their rewards, rest up at the nearest campfire and prepare for the long journey into the next realm.
