Steam Summer Sale Round-up for July 7
News by Jesse Dolman on Jul 07, 2011
It seems as though the Steam sales have cooled down a bit. After yesterday's disappointing overall offer, today mainly brings us more underwhelming deals, either because the price drop is not spectacular enough or because they have been on sale many times before.
The main example of the 'been there, done that' sentiment I experienced while browsing through today's sales is Counter Strike: Source. This admittedly legendary online shooter is now priced at €5, and in all honesty I was surprised that such an old game still went by the regular price of €20 while even games like TF2 are starting to become F2P now. Valve games in general are on sale quite often, so this deal didn't strike me as particularly spectacular.
The Quake games being 75% down seems more interesting, but I doubt there are too many people who haven't owned at least some of these games at one point. In addition to that point, I don't think that especially the first 2 games hold up too well these days.
On a brighter note, all of the Tomb Raider games have gone down in price 75%, and apparently Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is worth checking out, so I might actually be picking that one up myself.

There are a couple of other potentially interesting deals out there, but the 50% price cuts on Street Fighter IV (€15) and Dead Rising 2 (€20) seem just a tad conservative, especially seeing as the retail version of the latter can already be found in some stores for that very price.
If you didn't yet own Company of Heroes, the complete pack is currently priced at €6,24. But, again, the retail version of this pack isn't that much more expensive.
Remaining offers for July 7:
Risen - €10,19 (-66%)
Cities XL 2011 - €7,99 (-80%)
Audiosurf - €1,49 (-85%)
Sanctum - €3,75 (-75%)
Rift - €12,49 (-75%)
Command & Conquer - 80% off on the entire franchise
