Capcom's Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection releases this month and celebrates the iconic and long-running franchise by bundling Street Fighter 1, 2, 3, and Street Fighter Alpha series into one game. Today, Capcom released a video highlighting the mechanics and impact the original Street Fighter and Street Fighter II.
The video chronologically starts with Street Fighter which hit Japanese arcades in 1987. The visuals were rough and the gameplay simply but it provided the edifice for the series to become the smash hit it is now.
Street Fighter II released in 1991 is where the franchise really took off with 8 playable fighters, combo attacks, and new-before-seen mechanics.
Over the course of years Street Fighter II would be re-released as Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II, and Super Street Fighter II: Turbo, cementing the game’s legacy in the fighting game scene.
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection launches May 29th for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
