A quick, practical fence guide so your dinos stay contained and your park stays calm.

Fence strength is not just about what you place. It is also about how happy the dinosaur is. Every dinosaur has a Security Rating. That number is the key. It tells you what fence level you need to hold them safely.
If a dinosaur gets stressed or angry, some of them can still smash through fences that match their rating. So, you must plan for mood swings, not only stats.

How to Match Fence Security Ratings Properly
Open your building options, then go to Enclosures and click Fences. You will see multiple fence types. Each fence also has its own Security Rating shown in the list.
The basic rule is simple. Compare the dinosaur’s rating to the fence rating. Then choose a fence that meets or exceeds it. This helps prevent breakouts when things go wrong.
Still, some dinosaurs are exceptions. The T. rex is the biggest warning.
T-Rex Fence Setup: Why “Enough” Still Fails
The T. rex has a Security Rating of 6. That means it can break down nearly any fence if you do not keep it happy. Even if you place a fence with a high rating, it can still fail when the T. rex is “pissed off.”
So, for the T. rex, the fence is only part of the solution. The other part is keeping it calm. If you rely only on the rating, you will still get escapes.

Velociraptor Fence Setup: A Cleaner Match
The Velociraptor is easier to manage with pure fence logic. It “only needs a five.” A fence rated 5 will hold it “no matter how angry your dinosaur is.” That makes fence choice much more reliable for Velociraptor enclosures.
This is why checking each dinosaur matters. Two carnivores can behave very differently, even if they seem similar.

Check Ratings for Every Dinosaur Before Building
Do not guess. Look around your dinosaurs and check their Security Ratings. Then apply fences based on what you see. Some dinosaurs only need a lower fence, like Security Rating 3, so you do not need to overspend early.
This habit saves money and avoids rebuilding later. It also prevents panic chains when one breakout triggers more stress nearby.
How to Unlock Better Fences Through Research
You will not get the best fences right away. To unlock better fences, go to your Science Center, open Research, and look for the fence upgrades there.
Each fence unlock has requirements. The details are shown in the bottom-right area of the research panel. Focus on these unlocks early. That way, you do not fill your park with weak fences that you will regret.

How to Upgrade Existing Fences the Right Way
There is a useful tool for improving fences without rebuilding everything manually. Turn on Replace. Then you can upgrade the fences by replacing the current ones with stronger ones.
Be careful during upgrades. A dinosaur can escape while the fence is being upgraded. Upgrades also take time, and heavier fences take longer to build. Plan upgrades when the enclosure is stable, and do not do it during active stress spikes.
