Most routine Blood Moons in The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu build from the noise created during an expedition. Loud weapons, environmental hazards, enemies, and repeated small actions all increase the danger. Managing that noise lets you finish objectives with fewer interruptions, although some scripted actions can still force a Blood Moon.
Watch the Noise Indicators
Noise indicators briefly appear at the left and right edges of the screen. Gray indicators show lower-level noise, while red indicators signal a major increase toward a Blood Moon. When they turn red repeatedly, stop making unnecessary noise and allow the buildup to settle.

Avoid the Loudest Actions
Muskets are among the worst noise sources and produce red indicators with every shot. Keep firearms as emergency weapons and rely on upgraded melee weapons, stealth attacks, or a bow when possible.

Do not force your way through stiff branches, because snapping them creates major noise. Cut them with a melee weapon or take another route. Crouch past red-eyed birds instead of attacking them, and protect the wagon's ox from friendly or enemy hits because its bellow adds substantial noise.
Limit Smaller Noise Sources
Sprinting is normally quiet, but sprinting in chest armor creates a rattling noise. Crossbow reloading, kicking open locked chests, whistling, and calling the wagon with the horn also add to the buildup. Wildlife and alerted enemies contribute as well, especially enemies carrying Muskets or loud bird-like creatures.
Skip unnecessary fights. When combat is unavoidable, eliminate firearm users and screaming enemies first. A Jar of Black Ichor can distract supernatural creatures and open a quieter route around a crowded area.
Back Off When the Moon Changes
A heartbeat warns that the Blood Moon threshold is close, and the moon begins turning red. Slow down, stop loud actions, and wait in a safe area until the warning fades. This allows you to resume moving without immediately crossing the threshold.

Survive a Triggered Blood Moon
Avoid firearms and loud hazards, monitor the warning signs, and pause when the heartbeat begins to greatly reduce Blood Moon encounters.
Once a Blood Moon fully begins, reducing noise will not cancel it. Defeat the spawned enemies or survive until the event ends. Later Blood Moons and higher-level contracts can produce stronger waves, teleport the group to different locations, or introduce contract-specific creatures.
Some objectives are scripted to trigger the event. Picking up a Tulu metal cylinder, for example, starts a Blood Moon regardless of prior noise, although securing it on the wagon ends that forced event.
FAQ
Q. Are Blood Moons completely random?
A. No. Many Blood Moons build from accumulated expedition noise, but certain objectives can trigger one automatically.
Q. What creates the most Blood Moon noise?
A. Muskets, snapping stiff branches, alarming red-eyed birds, and causing the wagon's ox to bellow are major sources.
Q. Does sprinting trigger a Blood Moon?
A. Sprinting alone is not noisy, but sprinting while wearing chest armor creates a repeated rattling noise.
