Centipede Parasites can interrupt an expedition at the worst possible moment in The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. Infection begins when a red pustule bursts near you and releases a crimson mist. Unless you use the correct cure quickly, a centipede will hatch from your character and force you to stop and fight it.

The cure is a Matico Flower, a yellow healing plant found throughout expedition areas. You must use it during the parasite’s incubation period, before the centipede emerges. The infection lasts for roughly 60 seconds, so carrying a Matico Flower is safer than searching for one after exposure.

How Centipede Infection Starts

Watch for red pustules while moving through the jungle and looting treasure sites. When you enter their range, they burst and spread a crimson cloud that infects you. These growths can appear near Idols, inside crates, or disguised as loot that changes as you approach. They can also be attached to wildlife that rushes toward you and explodes at close range.

Use a Matico Flower Before the Parasite Hatches

After entering the crimson mist, open your inventory and use a Matico Flower immediately. A healing sound confirms that the infection has been removed. It is useful to memorize common flower locations on each map and keep one in your inventory or vehicle before entering dangerous areas.

What Happens If You Miss the Cure Window

Using a Matico Flower within roughly 60 seconds of infection prevents the Centipede Parasite from hatching.

If the incubation period ends, the centipede emerges and must be dealt with directly. The creature is manageable when you are safe, but it can ruin an extraction if enemies or a Blood Moon are already pressuring you. Create space, kill the centipede, and avoid standing still in an exposed area.
