After nearly three years without a proper gameplay demonstration, Saber Interactive’s upcoming dinosaur survival adventure could be preparing for a significant return with some ambitious changes.

Jurassic Park Survival seems to have undergone quite a few changes since its initial announcement, with a new rumor claiming that the upcoming game has become an open world. According to the newest claims, players will supposedly be able to explore different areas of Isla Nublar, discover locations from the original Jurassic Park, and come across a wider variety of dinosaurs throughout the island.

The same report also teases a major gameplay reveal at The Game Awards 2026 this December, potentially giving fans their first proper look at how the game actually plays. This would be the first substantial opportunity for Saber Interactive to showcase the game's mechanics, exploration systems, and dinosaur encounters in action.

That said, none of these details has been officially confirmed by either Saber Interactive or Universal.

The rumored changes are especially intriguing in light of what the developers have said so far about the project, including their plans to recreate the original park and add locations that were never in the 1993 movie. There’s also a separate rumor that Universal is looking to expand its gaming presence by launching a new gaming division, with Jurassic Park Survival possibly being part of a larger batch of games based on its properties.

Jurassic Park Survival was first announced at the Game Awards in December 2023, where its cinematic trailer immediately caught attention. But since that impressive intro, Saber Interactive has shown very little actual gameplay footage. The studio shared a behind-the-scenes presentation in 2025 that revealed glimpses of its environments, dinosaur models, and early gameplay, but a full demonstration of its mechanics is still not available.

The latest rumor suggests that this will finally change at The Game Awards 2026. If so, it would be just about three years since the initial announcement and could provide a chance for Saber to show just how far along the project is. Considering how long the studio has been working on the game, a significant presentation would provide players with a much clearer understanding of its exploration, survival mechanics, and dinosaur encounters.

That said, the rumor doesn’t mention if a release date or release window will accompany the presentation. Saber Interactive hasn’t shared an official launch window, so a big gameplay reveal shouldn’t be interpreted as a sign that the game is close to launch. A reveal at the event would therefore provide a closer look at the project without necessarily telling us when players will finally get their hands on it.

The most important part of the report is the suggestion that Jurassic Park Survival has developed into an open world experience.

The claim implies that players will be able to explore various parts of the original park, discover new locations, and encounter a variety of dinosaur species across Isla Nublar. This would be a giant expansion if the original design was more linear, although Saber has never officially confirmed that the entire island will be accessible as one continuous open world.

This possibility is particularly compelling, as the development team has already shared some details. “There were so many more locations than we ever saw in the movie,” executive producer John Melchior explained during the behind-the-scenes presentation for 2025. He pointed out additional facilities, buildings, and attractions that were still being built and even a hotel that had not been finished before the dinosaurs got out.

Some of these previously unseen locations have been confirmed by the developers to be explorable by players. Instead of merely recreating iconic scenes from the movie, the team hopes to expand the original setting, allowing players to visit locations that were meant to be in the park. This could make exploration one of the most compelling aspects of the game, especially for longtime fans who want to see more of the island beyond its recognizable attractions.

Saber Interactive has also explained that it is working closely with Universal, Amblin, and the filmmakers to recreate the island and its dinosaurs as accurately as possible.

Jurassic World executive Lisa St. Aman previously discussed how adapting the original movie into a video game gives the development team an opportunity to explore its setting in considerably more detail. The thing is, a video game can have more locations and environments that fit naturally into the established Jurassic Park world than a two-hour movie can.

We've already seen some of this work in behind-the-scenes footage, with detailed recreations of the park's buildings, jungle environments, and dinosaur models. The game takes place just 24 hours after the events of the first film, so a lot of the locations should be pretty familiar, although the park is basically in ruins following the dinosaur breakout.

Another fun fact comes from an earlier interview with creative director at Saber Interactive, Oliver Hollis-Leick, who talked about the different types of terrain on Isla Nublar. “There are some areas that will be especially hard to traverse,” he said. “Players will need to scan their surroundings, plan their routes, and proceed carefully so as not to draw the attention of nearby predators.

Apparently, players will need to consider the terrain, available paths, and nearby dangerous animals before deciding how to proceed.

While this is not definitive proof that the game is open world, it does suggest that exploration will be more than just going from objective to objective. The environment itself will largely dictate how players deal with dangerous situations. A proper gameplay presentation would finally give us a better idea of how these systems work.

The rumor also describes Jurassic Park Survival as a combination of survival horror, action, and adventure. This broadly matches the experience Saber has already presented, as the game has been officially described as a first-person action-adventure title with stealth and survival playing important roles throughout the story.

Players will control Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar alongside her colleagues following the events of the original Jurassic Park. She was hired by Dr. Henry Wu. This connected her directly to the scientific operations that created the dinosaurs. The story opens right after the park’s collapse and follows someone left behind on the island after everyone else has evacuated.

Add to all this well-known information the latest rumors and you have a particularly compelling project to follow in Jurassic Park Survival. A more open-world structure could allow Saber more flexibility to flesh out the world of the original film, and a mix of horror, exploration, and dinosaur encounters might offer a fresh take on the franchise's past games.

Players will have to wait for Saber Interactive to reveal more details for now. The big reveal at The Game Awards 2026 is still uncertain. Until the developers directly address them, you should take the rumored open-world changes with a grain of salt. Still, after such a long period without a proper gameplay demonstration, December could be an important opportunity for Jurassic Park Survival to show what it has become.
