The long-awaited Update 10.0 for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is here, and it's a huge deal. This latest update, called Operation Vortex, doesn't just make a few small changes; it adds new game modes, weapon tiers, cosmetic systems, and even scarier enemies to fight. You may have thought that Space Marine 2 had no more to give.
A new operation called Operation Vortex is at the heart of the update. It feels like a real addition rather than just an add-on. This update adds the Stratagems system, a fresh game mode with modifiers that change how you carry out operations. Each run is different because strategies can either help you by giving you buffs or hurt you with debuffs. On top of that, there are daily and weekly Stratagems with easy, medium, and hard problems, each with its own rewards.

One of the biggest changes to Strategims is the addition of accolades, a brand-new coin that looks like a glowing blue triangle. Your Accolades will let you into the updated Refinement and Redemption shop, where you can buy new skins, customization items, and the much-talked-about heroic weapons. This is where replayability comes in, pushing you to run activities not only to stay alive but also to get the currency you need for the best gear.
The best things about Update 10.0 are the heroic guns. Unlike basic gear or skins that just look good, these weapons have unique qualities that change the way you play. As an example, the Power Gladius makes your next light strike 75% stronger after a perfect dodge. This effect can happen up to three times. The Xeno Phase Blade makes your power rake waves wider and does 20% more damage. And then there's the Combat Melta, which now has a different way to fire through an enhanced vision scope.
They're not just new, shiny skins; they're also mechanical improvements that award skill. Getting them will cost money, though. Since each one costs 300 laurels, you'll have to grind Strategims for a while before you can use one of these powerful weapons. We don't know if the price is fair or if it's too much work, but one thing is for sure: they make a big difference in battle.
The champion customization overhaul is probably the most-anticipated change. It finally lets you mix and match characters from different Space Marine stories. Have you ever wanted to add a Space Wolves helm to a Salamander build? Do it. Do you want to dress your Vanguard in White Scars and Salamander gear at the same time? Yes, you can.
The system does have some flaws. Some helmets and gauntlets are still class-specific, and some famous pieces can't be used by everyone. As an example, not all classes can get Salamander helms, and Imperial Fists gauntlets are still locked. Still, being able to change the color of all armor pieces and mix chapters in a "mosh pit" feels like a huge improvement.
Good news for people who were afraid they would miss out on old rewards: older event things like Twitch drops and community event cosmetics are coming back and can now be bought in the new shop. If you've ever felt bad about missing out on an exclusive makeup, now is your chance.

Along with new guns, the update brings a bunch of new toys for you to play with. The long-awaited Pyro Blaster and Pyro Cannon are now available, along with the powerful Power Axe, which is already becoming a fan favorite thanks to how well it handles and how much damage it does.
But what good is a new gear if you can't test it on new enemies? Chaos Spawn types, three scary new boss-level enemies that are aggressive and gross, are added in Update 10.0. They are just the kind of challenge Space Marine 2 needed to make its late-game fights more interesting. It is both exciting and scary to face one of these monsters in the middle of Operation Vortex.
Update 10.0 makes big changes to both ranged and close fighting to make the game more balanced. People have long said that the Autobolt Rifle is a "default gun you should ditch right away." Its base damage has been raised by 25%, and its headshot ratios have been improved. The people who worked on it say that it might never be as good as specialized bolters, but it should now at least feel like it could work.
Some other changes are:
- Heavy Bolt Rifle headshot multipliers boosted.
- Chainsword and Power Sword speed increases across all block versions.
- Thunderhammer buffs, with faster swings and a 50% wider AoE radius on heavy/charged attacks.
- A brand-new Charged Shield Bash for the Bulwark class, designed to deepen shield-based perk builds.
- The update also adds more classes, and the creators have hinted that more move sets will be added in the future to keep builds interesting and new.
As part of the new season pass, Update 10.0 brings the Black Templars Champion Pack and the Imperial Fist Cosmetic Pack to kick off Year 2 for Space Marine 2. The price hasn't been set yet, but it's likely to be the same as last year's pass. With this update's reach, people are very excited about what the rest of Year 2 will bring.
Space Marine 2 doesn't just get better with Update 10.0; it's completely redesigned. Operation Vortex, heroic weapons, customizing your champion, and scary new enemies have made the game feel more alive and satisfying than ever. There are still some limits on customization, and getting heroic weapons by grinding awards will take some time, but this is by far the biggest and most exciting update since the game's release. People who want to play Space Marine 2 again now have a reason to do so.
