GTA 6's Phone Apps Could Change How You Interact With Leonida

From ride-sharing and vehicle theft to banking, fitness tracking, and social media, Rockstar appears to be turning your in-game smartphone into an essential part of the GTA 6 experience.

When you think about GTA 6, the first things that come to mind are probably its sprawling open world, police chases, robberies, and the criminal lives of Jason and Lucia. But there's one feature that may have a far bigger impact on the experience than you'd expect: the smartphone.

Rockstar has already shown several glimpses of the device, but its importance goes beyond simply giving you another way to access information. The phone appears to be one of the main ways you will interact with Leonida, with different applications influencing several aspects of the gameplay.

GTA 6 Phone with Lucia

Some of these apps bring back familiar ideas from previous GTA games, while others introduce new mechanics. Most are also based on real-world services, with Rockstar giving them its usual satirical treatment. From social media and ride-sharing to banking and vehicle theft, your phone could become one of your most important tools throughout the game.

One familiar application making a return is Snapmatic, which previously appeared in GTA 5. In the earlier game, it functioned as your character's photography app. You can take selfies or use a first-person perspective to photograph your surroundings. Then you could add filters, change depth of field, and add different effects similar to how you would on real-world platforms like Snapchat or Instagram.

You can also upload your photographs to Rockstar Social Club.

Snapmatic, however, appears to have a slightly different purpose in the single-player campaign of GTA 6. It will also be a social media platform to check out images, screenshots, and other content posted from around Leonida, in addition to its photography features.

This could make the application more important than it initially appears. Some posts you discover might hint at events happening in the world or even point you toward missions you can eventually complete. Rather than relying entirely on traditional mission markers, you could discover activities simply by checking what people are posting online.

There is another important difference compared to GTA 5. You apparently won't be able to upload your own photographs through Snapmatic in the single-player mode. Since you play as Jason and Lucia, both career criminals, publicly sharing images could expose too much about their activities and identities.

Snapmatic has also played a role in GTA 6's marketing. Several moments from the first trailer appeared to be presented through the application's social media format. We have also seen people livestreaming events within the game, resembling real-world platforms such as Twitch and Kick.

This suggests that social media will feel like a natural part of Leonida rather than something you only access to take photographs.

Another application that could make traveling around the map more interesting is RideMe. As its name suggests, this is Rockstar's parody of ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft. It appears to provide a fast-travel system that lets you request a ride and get picked up by a driver.

Once your vehicle arrives, you will have a few ways to use the service. You can immediately skip the journey and travel to your destination, saving time when you don't want to spend several minutes driving across the map. Alternatively, you can stay in the vehicle, look out the windows, and watch the world around you as the driver takes you there.

GTA 6 Wank App

You can also use your phone during these journeys.

This means you could browse Snapmatic, check what's happening around Leonida, or listen to the game's radio stations and podcasts. RideMe is a ride-sharing service so that the driver might pick up another passenger. It could spark conversations, chance encounters, new characters, or even possible quests.

Wank is one of the more important applications, especially if you like to steal vehicles. Despite its suggestive name, the app helps you identify vehicles and understand how difficult they might be to steal. Take out your phone and scan a car to see details about its security systems and condition.

For example, the app can tell you the vehicle's security level, whether the alarm will go off when you try to enter it, and whether it has a GPS tracker fitted. It can also tell you about restoration costs, including how much you may have to spend to keep the vehicle, or how much you could get by selling it to a fence.

The application will also identify the tools required to break into different vehicles.

Some might only require you to smash a window, while others could need a slim jim or more specialized equipment. Certain vehicles may even require a fake key, which you will apparently acquire later in the game. Having this information available on your phone means you will need to consider what equipment you have before deciding which vehicles are worth stealing.

Wank also includes a fence wish list highlighting specific vehicle makes and models that are currently in high demand. These are the vehicles your criminal contacts are most interested in acquiring, so you could earn more by targeting them instead of stealing whatever happens to be parked nearby.

Vehicle condition will also affect your earnings. If you steal a car intending to sell it to a fence, damaging it on the way could reduce its final value. Crashes or scratches make the vehicle less desirable, so you won't earn as much when you deliver it. The same applies if the vehicle was already damaged before you stole it. Wank can help you check its condition, although it won't provide that information while you're driving.

Communication will also play an important role in GTA 6 through an application called What's Up. This is Rockstar's parody of WhatsApp, and it will allow you to exchange messages and contact other characters throughout the game.

We have already seen Jason using the application to communicate with Lucia in the extended gameplay footage.

Their conversations could become one of its most important features, particularly because their relationship is expected to play a significant role in the story. You may be able to message Lucia when heading somewhere for a job, ask her to meet you at a particular location, or receive messages about everyday activities.

GTA 6 Raul with a phone

These interactions could also influence your relationship. For example, Lucia might message you to wish you good night or ask whether she should lock the door. Ignoring her messages could potentially have consequences, making communication something you need to pay attention to rather than an optional activity.

What remains unclear is how much freedom you will have when sending messages. Rockstar could give you stock answers to choose from a list, or it could let you send more free-form messages. Some have even speculated that modern artificial intelligence (AI) technology could make the latter possible, although no one has confirmed that functionality. For now, all we know is that the game will have a messaging app called What's Up.

Your money management will also have its own app called BuckMe, a parody of real-world services such as Cash App and Venmo. It will be like checking your banking info without having to go to the ATM each time.

One important detail is that apparently your money will be split into two categories: the cash you carry and the money in your bank account.

This could mean carrying large amounts of cash is risky. If you die, get mugged, or are otherwise deprived of your possessions, the money in your pocket may not be safe. You can deposit your earnings via ATMs and track your account with BuckMe, giving you another reason to manage your finances carefully.

GTA 6 might also include a more advanced fitness system via an app, though its name is still unknown. So far we just know it as the fitness app, but it looks like it is tracking a few different things about your character's physical condition. This includes gym workouts, weight lifting, cardio, body weight, body shape, and muscle development.

It will also track sleep and rest, which can affect your character's focus and overall performance. If you don't let Jason or Lucia get enough sleep, certain aspects of their condition could suffer. You might need to recover by sleeping, drinking coffee or energy drinks, or taking protein shakes. The app tracks these statistics so you can check your character's current physical condition anytime you want.

Another useful addition is Scooter Brothers, a reference to GTA 4.

This is not an app to hire electric scooters, though it sounds like it. Instead, it functions as a vehicle delivery service. If you find yourself somewhere without a vehicle, you can use Scooter Brothers to request one of the cars owned by Jason or Lucia. An NPC will deliver it to your location for a small fee, though the amount will apparently depend on where you are.

This service could become particularly important because your vehicle will also serve as storage for your equipment. Your weapons, clothing, gear, and loadouts will be kept in the trunk, meaning you won't simply be able to carry 15 different weapons around as you could in previous GTA games. Therefore, it is useful to have access to your personal vehicle at all times, especially if you want to change your equipment or get ready for a specific activity.

GTA 6 Peekhole app

There are still questions about Scooter Brothers, like how much the delivery service will cost and how many owned scooters you can get through it.

Finally, there is Peekhole, an application that has received considerably less attention than the others. It is apparently a parody of OnlyFans, and while we have seen it in some screenshots and trailers, its actual purpose remains largely unknown. It is also one of the least confirmed applications, meaning its role in the final game could be limited.

Right now, we don't know whether Lucia can create an account, whether the app will connect to the strip clubs, or what kind of content you will find on it. Rockstar hasn't provided enough info yet to know exactly how it will work.

Together, these applications show how much importance Rockstar may be placing on the smartphone in GTA 6. Your phone seems to link a variety of gameplay systems, such as finding things to do via Snapmatic, hijacking cars with Wank's help, maintaining your relationship with What's Up, and booking rides through RideMe and Scooter Brothers.

So instead of another device to make calls, the smartphone could be one of the main tools through which you experience Leonida. It gives Rockstar another way to make the world feel connected to modern everyday life, with familiar applications influencing everything from criminal activities to personal relationships. While some features remain unconfirmed, the applications revealed so far suggest your phone will be much more important in GTA 6 than in previous entries.
