What's Going on With Shenmue 3
One year of development, and still nothing on Shenmue 3

After Mighty No. 9's disappointing release many are questioning the quality of other Kickstarter projects, specifically Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Shenmue III. First announced last year at Sony's E3 press conference Shenmue III received 6.6 million USD from over 72,000 backers by May 2016, but we've heard little to nothing about the project.
One year later Yu Suzuki released an update, stating that the team is building a prototype. This started back in January and that facial expressions and game's battles are progressing well. The project is still accepting donations via PayPal.
A release date hasn't been officially confirmed but the crowdfunding page has Shenmue III slated for December 2017. Seeing that the game still seems to be in its early development stages perhaps it may take longer.
It'll be interesting to see how the project turns out. Clearly Shenmue III is something gamers want but given that its been one year and Mighty No. 9's effect on all Kickstarter projects being secretive with the game, especially those who invested into the project, can be risky.
