If you run into dead ends covered in tangled brambles, you need the Flaming Mane. This lion-headed Phantom Edge sets enemies on fire and burns down dried branches blocking your path.

Without it, you cannot reach certain hidden zones or finish key quests. Here is how to track it down and get it working in Phantom Blade Zero.

Phantom Blade Zero Getting the Flaming Mane

Getting the Flaming Mane

You need to work your way through the region of Pangzhen. Head toward the northwest corner of the map until you spot the entrance to the Lion Dance Hall.

The main gate will be shut tight. To get inside, you must track down the Lion-Head Embroidered Ball key item to pop the lock open.

Once the doors open, walk straight into the Lion Dance Hall and push forward through the corridors. The path leads straight into a large arena where you will fight Flame, the Mask-Bound Lion Dance Grandmaster.

Defeating Flame

This encounter plays out across two separate phases. During the first phase, watch your spacing. The boss uses wide, sweeping melee strikes and jumps around the arena. Wait for an opening right after a heavy slam, land a few hits, and back off.

During the second phase, the boss brings out fire attacks. Keep moving sideways to stay out of the flame bursts, dodge through the lunges, and counterattack when recovery frames leave an opening. Take down both phases, and the boss drops the Dormant Flaming Mane in Phantom Blade Zero.

Restore Dormant Flaming Mane

You cannot use the gear right away because the item is broken. Head back out into the central area of Pangzhen and look for Jingyang Hall. The doors were locked during your first visit, but beating the boss in the Lion Dance Hall unlocks the entrance.

Step inside the hall to meet up with Lei Dang. Talk to Lei Dang and choose the dialogue option to repair the Flaming Mane.

A cutscene will play, and Lei Dang will hand you the fully functional Flaming Mane. Now you can equip the tool, head back to any dry brambles or thorny branches you spotted earlier, and burn them down to explore what lies behind them in Phantom Blade Zero.
