Here’s a guide on how to find all the Banyan Trees in Phantom Blade Zero.

If you want to upgrade Soul with some of the best passive perks in the game, you need to track down Banyan Trees. These corrupted landmarks are scattered across the world, and touching one pulls you into an arena fight.

You have to clear two waves of regular mobs and finish off a boss rematch to claim your prize. Beating a tree earns you a Banyan’s Heart, which opens up powerful nodes on your skill board.

Here is how to find every tree in the game, survive the encounters, and get every heart available.

Banyan Tree #1: Crimson Forest

This is the first tree you will encounter, and the main story practically walks you straight to it. Toward the end of the chapter, you will see a cutscene involving an illusion of Inanis.

To find it, head south from the Burial Grounds bell, which sits near the Parting Mists bell area on the southeastern edge of the map. Follow the dirt path past the vision of Inanis, and the tree will be right in front of you in Phantom Blade Zero.

The first wave pits you against two Bandits, two Bandit Veterans, and one Thief. The second wave sends two Horse Bandits, one Bandit Veteran, and one Firethorn Thief.

For the boss encounter, you face Jing Ye the Outlaw backed up by two Bandits. Take out his two helpers first so you can parry his heavy attacks without getting hit from behind.

Banyan Tree #2: Pangzhen

You will find this tree tucked away on the western side of the settlement.

To find it, follow the main path through Pangzhen past the Green Serpent House. You will reach a wide flooded section where you can fight the optional boss You Loong. Head past this water area toward the northwest edge of the map to spot the tree.

The first wave features one Village Auntie with Child Puppets and two Puppet Villagers. The second wave steps up the pressure with four Yang Puppets, one Puppet Spearman, and one Swordshield Puppet.

The final encounter is Master Bi Yuan of the Tianxuan Sect. Watch out for his fast weapon arts and keep your spacing until his attack strings finish.

Banyan Tree #3: Mandate Encampment

This encounter is close to the start of the zone, but you need a specific piece of gear to reach the ledge.

To find it, start near the entrance of Mandate Encampment by the Sunset Path bell. Head down the sloping trail and look to the right for a tall cliff near a waterfall.

Use your Hunter's Chain Sickle to latch onto the grapple point and pull yourself up to the high plateau where the tree sits in Phantom Blade Zero.

The first wave throws two Baishan Scouts and two Baishan Twinblades at you. The second wave consists of six Gold Men.

The boss round is a duo battle against Stone Hand Iron Fever and Iron Fiend. Focus down Stone Hand Iron Fever first to cut down on incoming projectiles while dodging the wide swings from Iron Fiend.

Banyan Tree #4: Meigu Lake

This tree sits out on the water and requires access to the regional skiff.

To find it, head to the northeastern shore of Pangzhen to take the boat out across Meigu Lake. Steer toward the large island on the eastern side of the water. The tree is huge and easy to spot rising above the island's treeline as you row closer.

The first wave puts you up against three Shadow Wardens and one Shadow Warden Musketeer. The second wave brings in one White-Robed Shadow Warden, one Blunderbuss Shadow Warden, and two Wildfire Shadow Wardens.

The boss fight features Cavalrybane and Shadowclaimer. Keep moving around the outer edge of the arena so both bosses stay in front of you, and burn down Shadowclaimer first to eliminate ranged pressure in Phantom Blade Zero.

Banyan Tree #5: Mountain of Imprisonment

The Mountain of Imprisonment is a hidden, optional zone. You cannot reach this tree until you clear an exploratory side objective.

To find it, locate all the broken instrument parts across the map to finish the Illusory Pipa quest. Once repaired, play the pipa to clear the thick fog blocking your way in Meigu Lake.

Head through the mountain pass until you reach the Shrine Outer Gate bell. Walk across the wooden rope bridge just north of the gate to find the final tree.

The first wave includes one Brute, one Throwing Brute, one Shielded Brute, one Madwoman, one Twin-Pick Madwoman, and one Thorn Brute.

The second wave sends out one Yellow-Robed Brute, one Twin Axe Brute, one Spear Brute, one Madwoman, and one Mad Arsonist.

The final battle pits you against Iron Butcher and Jagged Steel. Bait the slow slams from Iron Butcher, punish him during recovery, and keep tabs on Jagged Steel so you do not get pinned against a wall in Phantom Blade Zero.

FAQ

Q. Do I lose my progress if I die during a Banyan Tree encounter?

A. No. If you die to the boss in the final wave, you respawn directly at the boss rematch. You do not have to fight the earlier waves of regular enemies again.

Q. Can I get all eight Banyan Hearts from tree locations alone?

A. No. There are only five Banyan Trees in the game, yielding five hearts. The other three must be bought from Quick Hand Zhang using Remnant Dust.

Q. Why can't I access the Mountain of Imprisonment Banyan Tree?

A. The Mountain of Imprisonment is an optional area locked behind the Illusory Pipa side quest. You have to gather all the instrument pieces, repair the pipa, and dispel the fog wall in Meigu Lake before the path opens.
