While most of your time in STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is spent tearing through tracks across various planets, you also spend plenty of time talking with characters and upgrading your racer. Most features unlock early on, but Backers do not show up until later.
If you want to earn the Star Racer and Poodoo Racer achievements or trophies, you need to understand how to get both an Excellent and a Poor Backer rating.
You encounter Backers starting in Act 2: The Galactic League. When you land on a new planet, you choose one of three random objectives to focus on during your races.
Each Backer also expects you to finish near the top of the leaderboards. Completing these Contract conditions pays out Credits, which makes them worth your attention.

Earning Excellent Backer Rating
To secure an Excellent rating from your Backer, you must finish in top three positions across most races on that planet while fully completing your Contract objective.
These tasks vary by planet. For instance, your Contract might ask you to run your Afterburner or Ramjet for a total amount of time, or spend a set number of seconds airborne across all events.
Fulfilling both requirements earns you the Excellent rating and unlocks the Star Racer achievement or trophy. High ratings also yield larger Credit payouts, giving you more funds to upgrade your vehicle.
Getting a Poor Backer Rating
Getting a Poor rating is much simpler. All you have to do is ignore your Contract goal entirely and finish in last place in every race on the planet.
Doing this essentially throws your entire run on that planet. You earn barely any Credits, and you might struggle to move on to the next location.
Still, taking the fall is the fastest way to check off the Poodoo Racer trophy if you are going after the Platinum trophy or Mythic achievement.

FAQ
Q. When do Backers become available in Star Wars: Galactic Racer?
A. Backers unlock once you reach Act 2: The Galactic League.
Q. What kind of objectives do Backer Contracts require?
A. Contract goals are things you have to do in races. For example: use your Afterburner or Ramjet for a certain amount of time, get a certain amount of airtime, etc.
Q. Do you lose anything by intentionally getting a Poor Backer rating?
A. Yes. Throwing races reduces your Credit rewards drastically and can temporarily delay your progress to new planets, though it lets you unlock the Poodoo Racer achievement quickly.
