Whether you’re a competitor in the Galactic Racing League or a classic Podracer racer, a fast start will give you an early advantage over your opponents.

That initial advantage comes from the starting boost. If you pull it off, you start the race at a higher speed than the other drivers next to you. Achieving it requires precise timing with your R2 or RT trigger right as the countdown finishes in STAR WARS: Galactic Racer.

STAR WARS: Galactic Racer Starting Boost Timing

Starting Boost Timing

Here is how the mechanic works once you line up at the starting grid. First, press R2 to crank up your engines, and then release the button completely.

As you watch the three-second countdown timer, a yellow meter appears directly below the numbers. You need to tap R2 in quick, light bursts to keep the indicator balanced right in the middle of that yellow bar. Keep tapping lightly as the timer hits zero to trigger the speed boost.

The yellow bar rises much faster than most players expect. A single tap sends it up quickly, so holding the button down will ruin the attempt. Light taps give you the finest control over the meter. With a bit of practice, you can trigger this extra speed every single race.

Missing the Timing

If you end up holding R2 instead of tapping it, you miss out on the starting boost. The good news is that your engine will not stall out or punish you with a bad start. You simply accelerate at the standard pace in STAR WARS: Galactic Racer.

While the speed boost is relatively small, it makes a real difference in online matches. As other racers learn the technique, mastering the starting line is the best way to keep yourself from falling behind early.
