ARK Survival Ascended Guide | How to Tame a Ferox (Genesis Ascended Part 1)

Use Element, a Grappling Hook, and the Ferox Cave to complete this dangerous transformation tame safely.

The Ferox is a powerful creature in ARK: Genesis Ascended Part 1, but its taming method can be confusing. Each time you feed it Element, the small creature transforms into a large and aggressive monster. The safest approach is to use the Ferox Cave, where you can avoid its attacks by grappling to the ceiling.

Find the Ferox Cave

The Ferox Cave is located at approximately 76.4 Latitude and 19.7 Longitude in the Arctic Biome. Several Ferox can spawn inside, particularly in the deeper section of the cave.

Bring a strong Shotgun, plenty of ammunition, a Grappling Hook, several Grappling Hooks, and enough Element to complete the tame. You should also wear warm armour because the Arctic Biome is extremely cold.

Clear the Cave Before Taming

The cave commonly contains hostile creatures such as Direwolves, Dire Bears, and Polar Bears. Kill them before approaching a Ferox. These creatures can attack you during the tame and may also kill the Ferox you are trying to tame.

Check both the entrance and the deeper chamber carefully. Hostile creatures can respawn, so keep your weapon ready throughout the process.

Feed the Ferox Element

Place Element in the final slot of your Hotbar and approach a small Ferox. When the feeding prompt appears, give it one piece of Element.

The Ferox will immediately transform, become aggressive, and attempt to attack you. Fire a Grappling Hook into the cave ceiling and pull yourself above its reach. Stay close enough to keep its attention, but remain high enough that it cannot hit you.

The transformed Ferox may run in circles beneath you or move toward the cave entrance. Lower yourself when it leaves the cave and grapple upward again when it returns.

Wait for the Ferox to Transform Back

Remain above the Ferox until its transformation ends. It will eventually return to its small form and become ready for another feeding.

Do not give it Element immediately. Wait until the Ferox performs a small sniffing animation. Feeding before this animation can trigger a glitch that creates a duplicate Ferox without increasing the taming percentage.

A successful feeding is easy to recognise because the Ferox transforms and begins chasing you again. If it remains still or appears to create a clone, wait longer before attempting another feeding.

Repeat the Taming Cycle

Continue feeding Element, grappling to the ceiling, and waiting for the Ferox to return to its small form. Each successful feeding usually adds around 11% Taming Progress, although the exact amount may vary.

If duplicates up, keep track of the original Ferox. If you feed the wrong one, you might waste Element and make it harder to control the tame. Keep going through the steps until the taming bar hits 100%. The Ferox will then be yours.
