Deflecting an incoming attack stuns your enemy in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resync. It breaks their defense and gives you a chance to land a combo. You can learn this mechanic early in the game to help you win fights.

Deflection Mechanics

To pull off a perfect deflection, watch your enemy during combat. Press the L1 button the exact moment you see a blue glint flash on them in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced.

If you time it right, the enemy will freeze. This opens them up for a takedown. If the enemy flashes red instead of blue, you cannot block it. You must dodge those attacks.

Finishing Moves and Chains

A perfect deflection lets you start a takedown right away. Your weapon decides how many enemies you can kill in a row.

For example, using the Legendary Rapier lets you chain up to three takedowns at once. You can also do a takedown with your Hidden Blade. You get this item early just by playing the main story in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced.

Multi-Directional Guarding

You do not have to stand right in front of an enemy to block them. Deflection works from any direction. You can stop attacks coming from your sides or from behind without turning around. This helps a lot when you fight large groups of enemies at the same time.

Unarmed Combat

You do not even need a weapon in your hands to deflect. The timing stays exactly the same when you are empty-handed.

You can still block the strike and transition into a quick takedown. Practice this timing on early enemies to get used to the window in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced.
